I am a consultant, crisis and interim manager and also a forensic expert with the broadest mandate for assessing corporate governance in the Czech Republic.
Bringing companies back to life 💸
When I started many, many years ago, I was an advisor and consultant, aimed at investment strategies primarily in the agricultural sector. As time went on and I gained more and more experiences about management, business and corporate governance at all levels of management (started in low and finished in top), one of my clients suggested I become an expert witness. That was in 2012.
I applied for registration and I was indeed registered at the end of 2012 as an expert witness appointed by the decision of the President of the Regional Court in Pilsen in the basic field of Economics, aimed at Corporate Governance, Management, Investments, Suppliers-Consumers chain, Restructuring, Rationalisation etc. And because I primarily focused on management, corporate governance and business economics, I was soon found by the white-collar crimes 🙂
And I started with expert statements for courts and police across the country. This was followed by so-called private assessments, and I began to learn more than I would have liked about the shady side of doing business in the Czech Republic.
In 2019, I successfully passed the balancing exam at the University of Economics in Bratislava (Slovakia) and became a appointed expert witness in Slovakia too. I have thus added a specialization in Controlling to my license and became the first (and still the only) Czech-Slovak expert witness in the field of Economics. I thus have two "round stamps" with two different state symbols 🇨🇿🇸🇰
But the more I worked as the expert witness (making statements and evaluations), the more I missed direct contact with corporate management. The more I saw companies that could no longer be helped, while it might have been possible a "while" before.
I usually describe it with a medical comparison. When I come in as an expert witness, I'm basically in the position of "medical examiner." Find out who killed the company, why, how, count up the damages and write it up. But I'm much more interested in saving the day. Being the surgeon who finds and removes the problem part in time, and makes the company survive.
And so, in 2021, I began to make my way back. I ventured into management consulting, interim management, and, if required, crisis management and managing companies in troubles.
I haven't given up on being an expert witness. I take it as a kind of service to society and I am proud of it, I teach new experts in courses how to be better, how to do the service so that they don't have to be ashamed of it and so that I don't have to write revision expert statements about their work 🙂
I also lecture at the University of Economics in Bratislava (Slovakia), from time to time at the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice, at the Czech University of Life Sciences and so on.
When I have time, I help the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, the Regional Office of the Moravian-Silesian Region, the Ministry of the Interior and other entities and authorities as an evaluator and opponent.
And because this path cannot be done without proper education, after I graduated the Faculty of Economics and Management at the Czech University of Life Sciences (Ing. title - master's degree), I completed my education also with an MBA (Strategic Management), LL.M. (with a focus on strategic management and business law), MSc. (with a focus on project management and managerial economics) and finally with a Ph.D. in Finance 🎓
And because it's good to meet people with similar interests, I am a member of the Lions Club International, Czech Association of Interim Management, Chamber of Expert Witnesses of the Czech Republic, Slovak Chamber of Property Appraisers and Expert Witnesses, Czech Economic Society, Czech Statistical Society and Czech Association of Security Managers.
I attend conferences as well 🚗🎤 In recent years, for example, the 6th Conference for Forensic Experts (2023), Faculty of Law, Masaryk University, Brno, conference Expert Witnessing in Technical and Economic Fields (2022), Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice, 14th International Scientific Seminar "Current Issues in Forensic Evidence IV" (2021), University of Economics in Bratislava and University of Žilina, where I had the lecture and published a paper in the conference proceedings (on the topic Current Legislative Regulation of Expert Activities in the Czech Republic and the Possibilities of Cooperation between Experts from Slovakia and the Czech Republic). Prior to that, there was the 4th Conference for Forensic Experts (2021) Faculty of Law, Masaryk University, Brno and so on ...
